I,
as so many of you, am deeply saddened by the events in our country these past
few days. Tragic shootings have occurred
that make absolutely no sense…that defy any form of logic.
I
watched a news conference this morning by the mayor of Dallas and their police
chief. I was so impressed with these two
men who spoke from the heart concerning everything that had transpired over
night. What struck me the most was that
they both confessed to being men of faith and that they have felt the prayers
of the people that have been lifted up in their behalf. As I heard them speak…these thoughts came to
mind:
When
life makes no sense…we can pray. When
we are overwhelmed with the feeling of loss…we can pray. When we are besieged with the feeling of
fear…we can pray. When we feel helpless
to make a difference…we can pray. When
we feel hopeless in a world that is falling apart…we can pray. And even when we are at a complete loss of
words…we can pray…because we are promised in Romans 8:26, “And the Holy Spirit helps us in our
weakness. For example, we don't know what God wants us to pray for. But the
Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.” I believe that
the Holy Spirit is praying for America today with groaning.
What a comfort it is to know…that even in our darkest moments…we
can pray.
Now, more than ever...we need to be on our knees in prayer...
